Balcarres Extended Care Home is fully licensed through the Regina Qu'Appelle Regional Health Authority. The facility was previously operated as a provincial hospital during the latter half of the 20th century and was converted to a long term health facility in 2000.

Extensive renovations were performed during 2002-2003 at an expense of nearly $1,000,000, which included the installation of the current cutting edge technology upgrades ranging from fire prevention to state-of-the-art Nortel systems. For added patient care, details such as both audio and visual emergency call systems in every room and bathroom were installed. The attention to these details was to ensure the safety and health of every resident. Each suite is 100% wheelchair accessible, with more spacious room than your traditional care home. Next to Balcarres is a medical clinic that has 2 physicians, an optometrist, a physical therapist and a massage therapist. It isn't uncommon to see these doctors in our facility making a house call.
